We are seeking a motivated, self-driven individual who enjoys working outdoors to join our team at the Kent Peat Bog as a Quality Control & Natural Resources Technician
This position plays a key role in maintaining the quality of our products, supporting the sustainable management of our natural resources, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our operations.

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring peat quality throughout the production process, supporting inventory management, participating in environmental monitoring activities, and working closely with operations teams to maintain the highest quality standards.

This position combines field work, data collection, technical analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities

Quality Control
  • Collect peat samples in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform quality inspections on harvesting areas, storage piles, and finished products.
  • Evaluate the physical characteristics of peat, including moisture content, structure, degree of decomposition, particle size distribution, contamination, and other quality parameters.
  • Conduct quality control testing following internal procedures.
  • Identify any quality issues or non-conformities and report them promptly.
  • Communicate inspection results to production teams and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Operate a tractor to take temperature of piles
Inventory Management
  • Participate in physical peat inventory counts.
  • Classify inventory according to company quality standards.
  • Assist with monthly inventory monitoring and reporting.
Natural Resources & Environmental Monitoring
  • Participate in environmental monitoring activities across the site.
  • Perform various field surveys and inspections.
  • Assist with water level monitoring and environmental sampling.
  • Support environmental certification programs (Veriflora and others).
  • Collect field data required for environmental projects and initiatives.
Data Collection & Technology
  • Use mobile data collection applications.
  • Prepare technical reports and ensure the accuracy of collected data.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to compile, organize, and analyze information.
Operational Collaboration
  • Work closely with supervisors and equipment operators to maintain product quality standards.
  • Participate in operational meetings as required.
  • Recommend continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of quality best practices.
Health & Safety
  • Comply with all company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in workplace safety inspections.
  • Identify workplace hazards and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety throughout the operation.

Qualifications
  • College diploma or equivalent experience in a related field, such as:
    • Peatland Operations
    • Environmental Studies
    • Forestry
    • Agriculture
    • Biology
    • Natural Sciences
    • Geography
    • Forest Technology
  • Experience in quality control, environmental monitoring, or industrial production is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to learn and use new data collection software.
  • Valid driver's licence.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily outdoor work.
  • Frequent travel throughout the peat bog.
  • Occasional operation of ATVs and off-road vehicles.
  • Seasonal work schedule that may vary depending on weather conditions and operational requirements.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) provided.
  • Comprehensive training provided.
