The Gage Lab Technician is responsible for the calibration, maintenance, control and distribution of gauging and measuring equipment used in Production operations within Vallourec STAR Houston. This role ensures measuring instruments remain compliant, reliable, and available to support manufacturing process and quality requirements.

Your Day-to-Day Impact

You’ll play a vital role in our Quality team by:

  • Performing daily inspection routines across the facility to verify the condition and proper functioning of gauging and measuring instruments.
  • Issue and provide required gauging instruments (Example: MRPs) for Production operational units..
  • Maintain and track calibration schedules to ensure all equipment meets required calibration frequencies.
  • Generate and manage Work Orders for the verification / calibration of instruments
  • Conduct internal verification and calibration of applicable gauging equipment following established procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair gauging instruments when feasible, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly calibration status and due date reports.
  • Perform mold and cast inspection from threading lines, ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to coworkers on Gage Lab procedures, equipment handling and best practices.
  • Perform Coupling Receiving Inspection when required following established procedure.
  • Perform calibration of Buck-on units in accordance with Operational standard
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following 5S principles in Gage Lab.
  • Actively participate in company programs, including Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental initiatives.
  • Safely handle, transport and store gauging equipment using appropriate material handling equipment and procedures.

What You Bring

We’re looking for candidates who are sharp, safety-focused, and ready to roll up their sleeves:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent. Technical career
  • Calibration experience / certification
  • Gagemaker / Mitutoyo certification
  • Quality Control Inspector preferred
  • Knowledge of calibration standards and metrology practices
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to read technical specifications and drawings
  • Basic understanding of quality systems, traceability, and calibration control requirements
  • Computer skills, including basics of Excel, Word, Adobe; Smart Sheets and Outlook, and the ability to learn new applications
  • Data generation – Completion and generation of Fabriq, SAP, Gage Track
  • Effective communication and teamwork
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment preferred
