The Quality Assurance Specialist (QA) is responsible for assisting the Director of Quality Assurance with development and implementation of Quality Assurance plans, procedures and programs in compliance with Los Alamos National Laboratory and Department of Energy requirements. The Specialist will facilitate and assist in the Quality Assurance Program and Process Improvement Programs. The Specialist will assist in the development of surveillance and assessment schedules and conduct periodic quality surveillances, audits and assessments of policies, procedures, and processes of Northern New Mexico Integrated Security, LLC (N2MIS) functions. The QA Specialist is also responsible for administration of the Issues Management Program. The Specialist will conduct quality analyses, including risk, causal, deficiency, and trend analyses in support of Department of Energy Contractor Assurance System requirements. Additionally, the QA Specialist will provide employee training and education in quality principles as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for development, implementation, and supervision of QA programs to ensure compliance with DOE, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and N2MIS directives.
- Review DOE directives, conduct QA assessments of policies, procedures and processes of operations, recommend policy and procedural improvements and develop corrective action plans to bring N2MIS into compliance where applicable.
- Administers the Issues Management Program.
- Identify and recommend corrective actions and improvement opportunities.
- Advise management on status of issues and courses of action.
- Conduct follow-up verification/validation of closed findings.
- Oversee the trend analyses of processes as needed or requested.
- Develop and maintain applicable policies and standard practices dealing with quality activities for the Company and internal procedures for the QA section.
- Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are Monday-Friday standard core hours, however some extended or weekend hours may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- Work is performed onsite. Position is not remote.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Currently have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a Department of Energy (DOE) Q level security clearance. Obtaining this clearance requires US citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid NM driver’s license.
- Quality assurance analysis experience with a background in quality assurance audits, statistical process control, report preparation, systems deficiency and statistical analysis, risk management, causal analysis, developing corrective actions, trend tracking and analysis.
- Demonstrable experience/skill preparing and delivering formal briefing presentations and multitask management.
- Strong verbal and written skills and proficiency in all Microsoft Office suite programs required.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks while maintaining strict attention to detail and accuracy.
- Physical demands of this position vary from situation to situation. May be required to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to ten (10) pounds. Sedentary work involves extended periods of sitting while engaged with a computer terminal or phone.
- Must have close visual and auditory acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; determining the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work; or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
- May be subject to hazards such as moving vehicles. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday.
Desired Education and Experience (Considered a Plus)
- BS or BA degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent combination of academic training and experience.
- American Society for Quality (ASQ) Quality Auditor Certification (CQA)
- Knowledge of Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) operational security and training
- Knowledge of complex organizational functions and processes.
