Quality Assurance Officer

Are you an experienced quality professional with strong attention to detail and a practical, process-driven approach?

South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is seeking a motivated Quality Assurance Officer to support our quality management, compliance and accreditation activities.

SWAMS is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We provide culturally responsive, holistic services that support individuals, families and communities across the South West.

About the role

Reporting to the Quality and Compliance Coordinator, you will support the maintenance and ongoing improvement of SWAMS’ Quality Management System and help the organisation meet its audit, accreditation and compliance requirements.

Working collaboratively with leaders and staff across SWAMS, you will coordinate document-control activities, support audit and accreditation readiness, monitor quality and compliance actions, and provide practical advice and training.

This hands-on role requires demonstrated quality assurance experience, sound judgement and the ability to work independently and follow matters through to completion.

Main duties

  • Support internal and external audits and accreditation activities.
  • Maintain quality records, audit evidence, action plans and review schedules.
  • Coordinate the review and control of policies, procedures and other organisational documents.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System.
  • Monitor quality and compliance actions and follow up outstanding requirements.
  • Provide practical quality, compliance and system guidance to staff.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities to improve systems and processes.
  • Support new programs and projects to establish appropriate quality processes.

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in quality assurance, preferably within health, community services or another regulated environment.
  • Experience with quality management systems, accreditation, audits, compliance or document control.
  • Ability to understand and apply quality standards, policies and procedures.
  • A methodical and process-driven approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across different teams.

Desirable criteria

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Qualification or formal training in quality management systems or auditing.
  • Experience supporting accreditation processes and audits.
  • Experience providing quality-related guidance or training.
  • Experience working within an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service.
  • Experience using an electronic quality management system such as LogiQC.
