Our Team:

Our Above Water Systems team designs and engineers commercial and naval ships – as well as providing in-service support capabilities. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our Navy. About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager (QAM)to join our team, supporting key Thales programs at both Garden Island and Woolloomooloo office. As a QAM, you will be a champion for the Thales Quality Policy, ensuring effective quality practices are applied to deliver outstanding services and products. This position partners closely with business and project leadership to achieve targets and continuously improve quality standards across all operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion the Thales Quality Policy, driving its implementation across the assigned perimeter.

  • Develop and oversee Quality Management Plans, ensuring standards are applied to bids, projects, and product delivery.

  • Partner with project teams to assure deliverable conformity and facilitate lessons learnt.

  • Lead customer feedback management, driving corrective and preventive actions.

  • Establish and maintain direct links with customers, quickly resolving any quality concerns.

  • Conduct audits and maturity assessments to verify compliance and drive continuous improvement.

  • Utilise root cause analysis tools (such as 8D) to resolve issues at source.

  • Monitor and report on quality trends, risks, and performance using business tools (e.g., Service Now, Oracle NCM).

  • Support internal, customer, and third-party audits for certifications (e.g., ISO 9001).

  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement across teams.

About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or a related technical field (desirable)

  • Audit certification (e.g., Lead Auditor) and experience (desirable)

  • Proven experience in Quality Management within a technical or systems engineering organisation

  • Detailed knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems

  • Strong influencing, analytical, and problem-solving skills (experience with 8D preferred)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to advise and influence stakeholders at all levels

  • Diplomacy, resilience, and a commitment to upholding quality even in challenging situations

  • Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and recommend actions
