Job Description

Canam Bridges designs, manufactures and installs steel bridges for major infrastructure contractors across North America. Canam Bridges is a member of Canam Group, which has over 5,100 employees and operates 22 plants in North America, as well as engineering offices in Canada, Romania, India and the Philippines.

Responsible for maintaining a Quality Management System that makes all employees accountable for quality through influential management. An individual who leads by example and serves a positive influence to all. Works on the job with each department and subcontractors to ensure the Quality Management System effectively builds quality into the product.

Essential Functions:

  • Work under the direction of the Director, Project Management
  • Work with Quality Control Manager to maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) that effectively builds quality into the product
  • Provide technical planning on assigned projects, support the creation of project specific manufacturing plans and ITP that meets the project specifications and make sure it is well communicated to all employees
  • Daily communications and audits of our work methods and behaviors towards defects and processes in order to develop the accountability towards the QMS
  • Challenge our work methods to minimize defects and rework
  • Make sure we follow our Manufacturing plan and ITP
  • Develop measurable KPI and goals to quantify our improvements
  • Provide a weekly quality performance report to the management
  • Work on the job with employees to audit the QMS
  • Work with Quality Control Manager and Production Superintendent to improve the daily performance of our QMS
  • Work hands on with the work force to determine the required training and best practices for all manufacturing tasks
  • Work with owners, subcontractors and Quality Assurance Inspectors to establish a professional relationship and better communicate our QMS
  • Perform daily Gemba Walks and observe/review all manufacturing functions
  • Receive and review quality plans from subcontractors and ensure compatibility with project requirements
  • Receive and review all quality packages from subcontractors for work completed
  • Visit subcontractors as required to perform audits and ensure work being completed in accordance with the project requirements
  • Attend project management meetings to stay abreast of project obstacles and solutions
  • Attend quality control meetings to stay abreast with quality obstacles and solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of AISC, AWS, ASTM and OSHA requirements
  • Effective communication skills and strong customer orientation
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Exceptional and proven organizational skills
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction
  • Ability to travel for necessary training and jobsite visits.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Google Workspace
  • Extensive background in steel fabrication is required
  • Read and speak English

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to sit, occasionally stand and walk, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to talk or hear. Seldom lift and/or move up to 30 plus pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

General office, production environment and plant operation. Daily exposure to computer display and shop environment.
