About the role

We are seeking experienced and safety‑focused QA Inspector to support the upcoming AMPOL Lytton Refinery Shutdown, located in Lytton, Brisbane (4178). This position is suited to locals.


This shutdown will run from Mid - July till the end of September

As a QA Inspector, you will ensure quality during critical shutdown activities in a high‑risk industrial environment, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and verify all welding and fabrication activities in accordance with relevant codes, standards and project specifications
  • Ensure compliance with client quality requirements and UGL procedures
  • Monitor and enforce Safety, Health and Environmental requirements
  • Review and verify:
    WPS, WPQ and welder qualifications
    ITPs, work packs and welding traceability documentation
  • Conduct welding inspections across the full lifecycle:
    Fit up, alignment, preheat, tacking
    Root runs and final welds
    Visual inspection and NDE readiness
  • Perform dimensional inspections against IFC drawings
  • Audit welding consumables, storage, issue and equipment calibration
  • Liaise with supervisors, subcontractors and client representatives on welding and fabrication matters
  • Test and qualify new welders and welding procedures as required
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost effective welding practices
  • Assist with QA documentation, MDR/MDF compilation and final handover

About You

  • Qualifications & Certifications
    • Relevant Trade Qualification
    • AS1796 Certificate 10
    • Welding Inspector Certification
    • AS2214 Welding Supervisor Certification (desirable)

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a QA/QC or supervisory welding role
  • Proven background in shutdowns, power stations, refineries or heavy industrial projects
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • AS1554, AS1796, AS2980
    • Welding inspection, NDE and QA systems (ISO 9001)
