Job Description

The ETL Tester will be responsible for designing, automating, and executing test cases for Enterprise
Data Warehouse (EDW) ETL processes in a State Government Medicaid environment. In this role,
you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of data as it moves
through our ETL processes. You will leverage your expertise to design and execute test strategies
that validate both functional and non-functional requirements of our data pipelines.
The tester will leverage ETL tools, primarily Informatica PowerCenter for extraction,
transformation, and loading, and Teradata RDBMS for core data store validation — within Azure
DevOps and agile sprint cycles to ensure data quality, identify defects, and automate repeatable
testing processes.

Key Responsibilities:
Requirement Analysis & Test Strategy
• Review change requests and participate in requirement analysis for EDW data pipelines and
transformations
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure test coverage
aligns with business requirements
• Design comprehensive test strategies, test plans, and test cases for ETL workflows
ETL & Data Validation
• Perform end-to-end validation of data pipelines from source systems to EDW targets
• Validate source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, and business rules
• Execute data quality checks including row counts, null validation, duplicate detection, and
referential integrity
SQL & Backend Testing
• Develop complex SQL queries (joins, aggregations, transformations) to validate ETL processes
• Perform backend and database testing across large datasets and multiple systems
Automation & Scripting
• Develop and maintain automated data validation frameworks using Python (Pandas, SQLAlchemy)
• Build reusable scripts for regression testing, reconciliation, and data comparisons
• Integrate automated testing into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
Cloud & Data Platform Testing
• Validate data pipelines and workflows within Azure Data Factory (ADF)
• Test integrations across Azure services including Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, and related
components
• Support validation of cloud-based data processing and orchestration workflows
Defect Management & Reporting
• Identify, document, and track defects using tools such as Azure DevOps, JIRA, or HP ALM

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in QA/testing with a focus on ETL, EDW, or backend data systems
• 5+ years of hands-on Python experience for data validation, automation, and scripting
• 5+ years of Azure experience, including data platform and cloud-based testing
• 5+ years of Azure Data Factory (ADF) experience, including pipeline validation and orchestration
testing
• 5+ years of experience working in cloud environments, preferably Azure
• Strong SQL expertise with hands-on experience in relational databases (Teradata, SQL Server, or
equivalent)
• Experience testing complex data transformations, data models (star/snowflake), and SCD (Type
1/Type 2)
• Experience with test management and defect tracking tools (Azure DevOps, JIRA, HP ALM)
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Preferred Qualifications
• Healthcare or Medicaid domain experience (claims, encounters, eligibility, provider data)
• Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data standards (837/835, ICD, CPT, HL7)
• Experience with Medicaid Enterprise Systems (MES) or State agencies (e.g., Illinois HFS)
• Experience with Informatica or legacy ETL tools (nice-to-have, not required)
• Familiarity with GitHub or version control for automation

• Partner with development teams to troubleshoot issues and ensure resolution
• Provide clear, audit-ready documentation of test results and findings
