This position will provide oversight for laboratory, field, and the Quality Systems Manual (QSM – lab and field). This includes training, development, and operational enhancements in these areas for all of the branches within the region.

The training aspect provides oversight of the training of individuals at each branch by implementing corporate procedures, protocols, and standards. It will require time at each branch when new hire start. Documentation and guidance throughout the training stage will be a vital tool for tracking progress and increasing technician success.

The QSM portion of this role focuses heavily on structuring, organizing, and training in order to streamline processes inside of the QSM. This includes laboratory testing, equipment calibration, SpectraQEST (SQ) training, improving “means and methods” for lab operations, maintaining accreditations, etc.

This role will serve under the VP of Quality and Training, as an intermediary to the regional RVP and branch managers. The position communicates updates on implementation and feedback on the training program and materials.

This position will share other home branch-office duties. The time split between this position and home branch responsibilities is approximately 50:50 with flexibility depending upon time-sensitive issues arising in either role. Primary responsibility for performing quality and training functions remains with the Branches. The Regional Quality & Training Coordinator will provide a secondary layer of accountability by the branches to perform these functions.

The goal of this position is to provide the company with thorough documentation that staff are being consistently trained to perform day-to-day duties, and that each branch is conforming to the company QSM and satisfying the associated accrediting agency requirements. The role is positioned as an asset and resource for the regional branches.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as intermediary between the VP of Quality and Training, RVP and branch managers
  • Documents training practices for each new hire (lab and field)
  • Documents the development and progress of each individual
  • Improves and streamlines existing test methods and daily operations
  • Communicates technician progress with all involved parties
  • Interacts with new hires
  • Coordinates and communicates with managers (Branch and department)
  • Performs training and follow-up evaluations for field and lab staff
  • Oversees and develops new test methods for new hire onboarding
  • Assists the VP of Quality and Training in developing quality and training materials.
  • Oversees QSM organization, structure, and associated performance evaluations
  • Mentors and/or oversees work and development of lab supervisors, lab technicians, and field technicians.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Thorough technical knowledge of testing requirements for the most common laboratory and field testing standards and specifications.
  • Maintenance of ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, WACEL, or ICC certifications in the disciplines of soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft products to produce training and quality documentation: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Skill in effectively producing written technical documents.
  • Demonstrated skill in mentoring and training CMT laboratory and field technicians.
  • Experience in participating in onsite assessments from accrediting bodies and in clearing of discrepancies.
  • Ability to provide maintenance and calibration of standard concrete and soils laboratory and field equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field and to perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals
  • Must be able to problem-solve without compromising integrity of the work
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Valid driver’s license and good-standing driving record
  • Travel will be required
  • Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record
