ABOUT THE ROLE An established cutting and fabrication company in Germiston is looking for a skilled Welder to join its workshop team. The Welder welds fabricated components according to approved job cards and drawings, using the correct welding process and technique for each job, so that fabricated assemblies meet the company's specification and quality requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Welding Operations • Weld fabricated components according to the job card, drawing and specification • Select the correct welding process, consumables and settings for the material and joint type • Check fit-up, alignment and preparation before welding, and query discrepancies with the Workshop Manager • Inspect completed welds for penetration, finish and dimensional accuracy, and grind and clean welds to the required finish Equipment Care • Carry out start-up, shut-down and daily checks on welding equipment, torches, gauges and tooling • Maintain, clean and degrease welding equipment and tooling according to the maintenance procedure • Monitor consumable stock (wire, rods, gas, grinding discs) and request replacements at reorder level • Report any faults found during inspections to the Workshop Manager immediately Quality, Stock and Records • Inspect welded components for defects (porosity, cracking, poor penetration) and report non-conformances • Record jobs completed and material used, and sign off completed job cards • Sort, stack, label and prepare welded components for the next process or dispatch Health, Safety and Housekeeping • Work according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and company safety procedures • Wear prescribed welding PPE at all times and apply fire prevention and fume extraction measures • Report every injury, incident, near miss and unsafe condition immediately • Keep the work area clean and attend all safety training and toolbox talks Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • South African nationals only • Proven welding experience in a fabrication or workshop environment - minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the same/similar role • Competent in the welding processes required for the role • Able to read and work from engineering drawings, job cards and specifications • Able to inspect welds for defects and dimensional accuracy • Sound knowledge of welding safety, PPE and fire prevention practices • Physically able to handle materials, lift and stand for full shifts • Trade-tested Welder or relevant welding certification • Experience grinding, finishing and preparing components for dispatch • Clean criminal record
