Job Purpose


The Director of
Warehouse, Sales and Distribution provides strategic leadership and oversight
of RMS’s warehousing, sales, and distribution operations to ensure efficient,
reliable, and cost-effective management of health commodities across the supply
chain network.


The position is
responsible for developing and implementing warehouse and distribution
strategies, optimizing inventory management, ensuring timely order fulfillment,
strengthening operational efficiency, and maintaining compliance with
applicable standards, regulations, and best practices.


The role leads the
transformation and continuous improvement of RMS warehouse and distribution
operations while ensuring effective service delivery to healthcare facilities
and stakeholders. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in
supply chain operations, warehouse management, logistics, customer service, and
operational leadership within a complex environment.


Key Responsibilities


The successful
candidate will be responsible for:


Warehouse and
Distribution Strategic Leadership


• Develop and
implement RMS’s warehouse, sales, and distribution strategy aligned with
organizational objectives.
• Provide strategic direction for efficient management of central and regional
warehouses.
• Oversee the long-term vision, growth, and operational improvement of public
health commodity storage and distribution systems.
• Lead initiatives aimed at improving supply chain efficiency, availability of
commodities, and customer service delivery.
• Provide strategic advice to Executive Management on warehouse operations,
distribution performance, and supply chain improvements.


Operational
Management and Service Delivery


• Oversee daily
warehouse, sales, and distribution operations to ensure effective service
delivery.
• Ensure timely processing, fulfillment, and delivery of customer orders.
• Develop and monitor operational performance indicators for warehousing,
transportation, and distribution activities.
• Establish mechanisms to improve order accuracy, delivery timelines, and
customer satisfaction.
• Ensure continuity of operations through effective planning and resource
management.
• Monitor service level agreements (SLAs) with customers and stakeholders to
ensure agreed service standards are achieved.


Inventory and
Warehouse Management


• Ensure effective
inventory management practices across RMS warehouses.
• Monitor stock levels, inventory accuracy, storage conditions, and commodity
availability.
• Develop strategies to optimize inventory turnover and reduce losses,
expiries, and inefficiencies.
• Ensure compliance with good storage practices and applicable health commodity
management standards.
• Oversee implementation of warehouse management systems and operational
improvements.
• Promote effective stock monitoring, reporting, and accountability mechanisms.


Sales and Customer
Relationship Management


• Provide leadership
in managing RMS sales and customer service operations.
• Ensure effective coordination between sales, warehouse, and distribution
functions.
• Monitor customer needs and develop strategies to improve service delivery.
• Strengthen relationships with healthcare facilities, government institutions,
and strategic stakeholders.
• Ensure timely invoicing, revenue collection, and recovery of outstanding
payments.
• Monitor customer satisfaction and recommend improvement initiatives.


Operational Planning,
Budgeting and Performance Management


• Develop and oversee
the directorate operational plan and budget.
• Ensure effective allocation and utilization of operational resources.
• Monitor operational expenditure and ensure alignment with approved budgets.
• Establish performance targets and monitor achievement of departmental goals.
• Prepare and communicate operational reports, dashboards, and performance
updates to management.


Compliance, Risk
Management and Safety


• Ensure warehouse
and distribution operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and
industry standards.
• Establish and maintain safety, security, and risk management practices across
warehouse operations.
• Ensure implementation of warehouse safety protocols, inspections, audits, and
training programmes.
• Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
• Ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations and risk management
actions.
• Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and compliance.


Policies, Procedures
and Continuous Improvement


• Develop and
implement warehouse, distribution, and operational policies and procedures.
• Establish best practices that improve efficiency, productivity, and service
quality.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives across warehouse and distribution
operations.
• Promote innovation and adoption of improved supply chain practices.
• Ensure standardization of operational processes across all RMS facilities.


Vendor and
Stakeholder Management


• Manage
relationships with logistics providers, contractors, suppliers, and service
providers.
• Ensure vendors meet agreed service standards and contractual obligations.
• Monitor third-party service performance and recommend corrective actions
where necessary.
• Collaborate with supply chain partners to strengthen distribution
effectiveness.


Leadership and People
Management


• Provide leadership,
coaching, mentoring, and performance management to warehouse, sales, and
distribution teams.
• Establish departmental objectives, work plans, and performance targets.
• Build team capacity through training and professional development
initiatives.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, innovation, and operational excellence.
• Ensure effective coordination between regional warehouses, central warehouse,
and sales teams.


Other
Responsibilities


• Perform any other
duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or Executive Management in
support of organizational objectives.


Academic
Qualifications


Applicants must
possess:


• Master’s Degree in
Supply Chain Management, Logistics,
Pharmacy, Business Administration, Operations Management, or another
closely related field from a recognized institution.


Professional
Qualifications


The following
professional qualifications will be an added advantage:


• CSCP



CPIM



Six Sigma. Lean



Logistics and Warehouse Management
certifications



Inventory Management certifications.


Experience


Applicants should
demonstrate:


• Minimum of ten (10)
years of progressive professional experience in warehouse management,
logistics, supply chain operations, or distribution management.
• At least five (5) years of experience in a managerial or senior leadership
position.
• Proven experience managing large-scale warehouse operations and distribution
networks.
• Demonstrated experience in inventory management, customer service, and
operational performance improvement.
• Experience managing health commodities, pharmaceutical products, or supply
chains will be an added advantage.
• Proven experience leading teams and managing complex operational
environments.
