Job Description

Our foundation in Angola is in place and the next phase is scaling it. We need a Country Manager who knows this market from the inside, can take full commercial and operational ownership of the existing business, and has the drive to grow the footprint from here. You'll be backed by our South Africa support team but running the country day-to-day as your own operation. Angola is a complex operating environment and we're not going to pretend otherwise. Supply chain requires active management. The regulatory landscape demands patience and local knowledge. The person who will succeed here has operated in this market before and knows exactly what they're walking into.

WHAT THE JOB ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

  • Growth & expansion
    • Identifying and securing new store sites alongside the SA Development team — growing the Angolan footprint with pace and discipline
    • Driving new store openings from planning to launch, including regulatory approvals and local permits
    • Ensuring brand execution is both culturally relevant to the Angolan market and operationally consistent with the wider Hungry Lion standard
  • Operations & supply chain
    • Full P&L ownership across all in-country stores — margins, unit economics, and profitability
    • Managing supplier contracts and keeping the supply chain reliable — including cold chain logistics in a market where that requires constant attention
    • Maintaining food safety, hygiene, and QSR standards across every store without exception
  • People & stakeholders
    • Leading, developing, and growing the existing local team — building the next layer of leadership, not just managing the current one
    • Representing Hungry Lion with local authorities, landlords, and regulatory bodies
    • Working closely with the South Africa hub across finance, marketing, and operations


WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • 8–10 years of F&B or QSR management experience, with a track record of scaling operations in Angola or comparable markets
  • Deep knowledge of the Angolan market - local legislation, commercial networks, and cultural context. Angolan citizenship is strongly preferred
  • Fluent in Portuguese and highly proficient in English for working with the SA team
  • Proven P&L ownership at a multi-site level
  • Comfortable making decisions independently and operating without close day-to-day oversight
