Job Description

Abramson Labor Group is a leading employment and workers' compensation law firm dedicated to advocating for employees' rights. Based in Burbank, CA, we are determined in representing workers who have faced discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage disputes, and workplace injuries. Our team is committed to providing top-tier legal representation with a client-focused approach, ensuring that every case receives the attention and expertise it deserves.

At Abramson Labor Group, we foster a dynamic and collaborative work environment where professionals can grow while making a meaningful impact in the lives of our clients. If you are passionate about employment law and workers' rights, we invite you to join our dedicated team.

The QME Deposition Clerk supports the litigation team by managing the full lifecycle of Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) depositions in workers' compensation cases. This role is responsible for reviewing case files ahead of scheduled depositions to identify opportunities for resolution prior to deposition, coordinating and preparing deposition materials, and attending QME depositions — both applicant-set and defense-set — to support counsel and ensure the process runs efficiently. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working independently under deadline pressure in a fast-paced workers' compensation litigation environment.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Deposition Case Review

  • Review assigned case files in advance of each scheduled QME deposition to assess case status, medical-legal issues, and litigation posture.
  • Evaluate whether resolution (settlement, stipulation, or cancellation of the deposition) is achievable prior to the deposition date, and flag viable cases to the assigned attorney or adjuster.
  • Communicate with attorneys, adjusters, and opposing counsel to explore early resolution options and confirm whether a deposition can be avoided, continued, or must proceed.
  • Document case review findings and resolution recommendations in the case management system.

Deposition Preparation

  • Prepare deposition packets, including medical-legal reports, prior records, exhibits, and outstanding discovery relevant to the QME.
  • Coordinate scheduling logistics with court reporters, interpreters, QME offices, and opposing counsel for both applicant-set and defense-set depositions.
  • Confirm deposition notices, subpoenas, and related service requirements are complete and timely.
  • Prepare and distribute deposition summaries, outlines, or question lists as directed by the attorney.
  • Track upcoming deposition deadlines and maintain an accurate deposition calendar.

Deposition Attendance

  • Attend QME depositions — both applicant-set and defense-set — in person or remotely, to support the attorney and ensure smooth proceedings.
  • Take detailed notes during depositions, tracking key testimony, exhibits marked, and outstanding issues.
  • Assist with exhibit management and real-time document retrieval during the deposition.
  • Coordinate post-deposition follow-up tasks, including ordering transcripts and distributing summaries to the case team.

Administrative & Case Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, deposition logs, and status reports.
  • Communicate proactively with internal team members regarding case status, resolution opportunities, and deposition outcomes.
  • Perform other litigation support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in workers' compensation litigation, QME/AME processes, or civil litigation support strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of California workers' compensation procedures, QME processes, and deposition practice (or willingness to learn quickly).
  • Prior experience as a litigation clerk, legal assistant, or paralegal in a law firm or claims environment is a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess case files and identify resolution opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deposition schedules simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet firm deadlines.
  • Proficiency with case management software, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), and e-filing/e-service systems.
  • Professional demeanor suitable for attending depositions with attorneys, medical evaluators, and opposing counsel.
