Job Description

Job Title: QA/QC TechnicianJob Description

This role focuses on quality assurance and quality control auditing within data centre environments, ensuring telecom installations meet industry, manufacturer and internal standards. The QA/QC Technician reviews completed work rather than performing installations, carrying out detailed inspections, testing and documentation to verify that equipment, cabling and rack layouts are installed correctly, dressed properly and functioning as designed. The position requires a strong attention to detail, an auditing mindset, and the ability to communicate findings clearly and professionally while supporting continuous improvement in quality practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily QA/QC inspections and observations on assigned data centre sites, focusing on telecom installations, cabling, rack layouts and overall quality standards.
  • Audit and verify telecom equipment, copper and fibre cabling, rack layouts and cable dressing to ensure installations are correct, tested, neatly dressed and functioning as designed.
  • Use QA/QC checklists to document inspection findings, including non-conformities, potential risks and areas for improvement, maintaining accurate and organised records of all activities and follow-ups.
  • Detect any deviations from quality standards and report them promptly to relevant personnel such as QA/QC leadership and site supervisors.
  • Work collaboratively with management to recommend corrective actions and improvements that enhance quality standards, minimise risks and improve efficiency.
  • Stay up to date with industry, manufacturing and internal standards, as well as local, state and national codes and best practices, and adjust quality practices accordingly to maintain ongoing compliance.
  • Assist, when applicable, in training employees on quality standards and best practices to support consistent compliance across sites.
  • Think and act as an auditor rather than an installer, focusing on identifying issues, risks and non-conformities rather than performing installation work.
  • Apply a strong understanding of pre‑terminated cables, rack dressing and layout standards, and fibre and copper cabling concepts when assessing installations.
  • Communicate inspection findings clearly and professionally to site teams, producing concise, structured reports and distributing documentation as required.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer skills by interacting respectfully and professionally with on-site teams and stakeholders.
  • Show a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn and grow in the role, including taking on different projects or learning new areas as needed.
  • Support the team by being willing, where appropriate, to assist with installation work if quality auditing requirements temporarily slow down.
  • Manage time effectively to complete audits within the required schedule and production timelines.
  • Maintain a detail‑oriented, self‑starting and team‑focused approach, contributing to a collaborative and high‑performance work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Proven familiarity with quality assurance and quality control principles and practices.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in structured cabling environments.
  • Strong understanding of data centre and structured cabling concepts, including CAT5/6 installations, fibre termination and telecom work.
  • Knowledge of industry and manufacturer standards and proper installation of cable infrastructure, including compliance with BICSI, OEM specifications, data centre standards and TIA requirements.
  • Demonstrated QA/QC auditing and inspection mindset, with the ability to think critically, identify risks and non‑conformities and understand what correct installation should look like.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow structured checklists and documentation processes.
  • Clear documentation and reporting skills, including the ability to record findings accurately and produce professional inspection reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including professional communication on job sites and in group settings.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting and communication.
  • Excellent time management, problem‑solving and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a self‑managed style while remaining an effective team player.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to stay updated on industry changes and adjust quality practices accordingly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in data centres or similar technical environments is highly beneficial.
  • Learning Management System experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of adult learning concepts, supporting the ability to assist with training on quality standards and best practices.
  • Agile mindset with willingness to take on different projects or learn new technical areas as needed.
  • Experience with fibre optic cable, low voltage systems, outside plant (OSP) and technical support is advantageous.
  • Comfortable documenting issues in detail and distributing reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and apply rack dressing and layout standards, including pre‑terminated cable solutions.
  • OSHA 10 training is required prior to working on site; candidates without this must be willing to obtain it.
  • Completion of partner onboarding and any specific general contractor safety trainings required for site access.
