Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.
Begin an exciting career in aviation with our 2027 Qantas Group Engineering Apprenticeship Program, specialising in Mechanical Fitting within our Engine and Component Maintenance Workshops in Melbourne.
This is your opportunity to build a highly technical, hands-on trade in an aviation workshop environment, working with advanced machinery and precision equipment that supports our entire fleet.
Our workshops are where expert engineering comes to life. You’ll work on critical aircraft components, learning how to inspect, manufacture, repair and overhaul parts to exacting standards that keep our aircraft operating safely and efficiently. It’s a great fit for those who enjoy problem solving, working with their hands and seeing the tangible results of their work.
As a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, you’ll rotate across different workshop areas, gaining hands-on experience working to fine tolerances on complex components. You’ll operate advanced machinery including lathes, milling machines, grinders and CNC equipment, working with a range of materials such as aluminium alloys, stainless steel and titanium.
This is a pathway into precision engineering and advanced manufacturing, where you’ll build highly transferable technical skills in a specialised aviation environment to repair and maintain precision components that keep our aircraft flying
Our four-year apprenticeship combines formal training with our RTO partners, in-house courses and practical on-the-job experience. You’ll develop strong technical capability, gain exposure to a variety of components and processes, and grow into a qualified tradesperson supported by experienced engineers every step of the way.
If you enjoy hands-on work, have strong attention to detail and are interested in working with advanced machinery and precision components, this is a great place to start your career in aviation.
