Job Description

Pennoni is accepting applications for an Inspection Supervisor to oversee Quality Assurance (QA) inspection services for structural steel fabrication, coatings, and related bridge and highway materials.

This role supports transportation agencies QA fabrication inspection programs located in the Northeastern United States and includes supervision of inspection personnel, coordination with clients and fabrication facilities, and help ensuring compliance with applicable standards and specifications.

Job Responsibilities:

The Inspection Supervisor will provide comprehensive leadership and oversight for QA inspection staff supporting DOT projects at offsite fabrication facilities and project job sites.

This includes providing inspectors with technical guidance, performing shop audits, and supporting assignments when there are scheduling conflicts.

The role also involves conducting site visits to monitor performance and progress, as well as supporting the onboarding, training, and development of inspection personnel.

In supporting quality assurance objectives, the Supervisor will help ensure compliance with applicable DOT specifications, AASHTO, AWS codes, and contract requirements.

Responsibilities include reviewing inspection reports and documentation for accuracy and completeness, verifying that fabrication, welding, and coating processes meet required standards, and ensuring the timely submission of

deliverables.

The position serves as a key technical resource, providing guidance on welding procedures, nondestructive testing, and fabrication-related issues. The Supervisor will participate in prefabrication meetings, contribute to QA/QC planning and procedures, and mentor inspection staff to promote consistency and technical excellence across projects.

Additionally, the Supervisor will act as a liaison between Pennoni, clients, and fabrication facilities, ensuring clear communication of project status, risks, and issues. The role includes helping coordinate responses to client comments, audits, and technical inquiries to maintain strong client relationships and project alignment.

From a program administration perspective, the Supervisor will support staffing and resource planning efforts, confirm the accuracy and compliance of project documentation, and maintain internal quality control records to ensure consistent execution across assignments.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma and a minimum of eight (8) years of QA/QC inspection experience, including one to three years in a supervisory capacity, with demonstrated experience supporting DOT or similar transportation agencies.

The role requires key industry certifications, including AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), applicable ASNT Level II or III certifications (UT, MT, RT, or PT), AMPP Basic Coatings Inspector, and OSHA 10 safety training.

The candidate should demonstrate strong technical knowledge of DOT specifications, and related codes such as AASHTO/AWS D1.5 and D1.1 welding codes, the New York State Steel Construction Manual (NYSSCM), along with practical experience in structural steel fabrication and inspection. In addition to

technical expertise, the position requires proven leadership and team management abilities, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective verbal and written communication.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications is also essential.

This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule in a hybrid environment consisting of both field assignments and home office responsibilities, with approximately 50% travel to fabrication facilities. Travel is driven by fabrication schedules and project demands with shops primarily located in the northeastern United States. Reimbursements for travel-related expenses will generally follow GSA guidelines.

Benefits:

Pennoni offers competitive health and medical benefits, PTO, retirement, and other fringe benefits.
