Job Description

About the role

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician who will ensure that our products and services comply with defined technical specifications and meet all internal and external requirements. This is achieved through laboratory analyses defined in company systems and in accordance with Barry Callebaut standards and quality procedures.

The role is positioned within Quality and works in close collaboration with Production, QA, external laboratories and suppliers. The Laboratory Technician plays a key operational role in safeguarding food safety, product quality and continuous improvement at site level.

Note that this is a permanent, 1 year maternity cover contract.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological, analytical and sensory testing according to defined methods and record results.
  • Coordinate external analyses, including sample shipment, ordering tests and registering results.
  • Conduct additional analyses such as swab testing and air sampling.
  • Release raw materials, semi‑finished and finished products in line with release criteria.
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding quality issues and non‑conformities.
  • Make decisions on product rejection, rework or disposal according to procedures.
  • Register and manage quality deviations in the CAPA system and drive them to closure.
  • Monitor laboratory inventory and ensure timely ordering of consumables.
  • Track raw material shelf life, extend it when appropriate and flag materials for disposal.
  • Record findings from OPRP/CCP checks (e.g., sieves).
  • Participate in internal, external and customer audits.
  • Support production teams in quality‑related matters and investigations.
  • Ensure laboratory procedures comply with global standards and remain up to date.
  • Contribute to root cause analyses and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and develop competence in systems such as Axapta, QDS and other relevant tools.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or similar and min. 2 years’ experience in quality control within food, pharmaceutical or similar regulated industries.
  • OR relevant post‑secondary education in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or equivalent, plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience in quality control within food, pharmaceutical or similar industries.
  • Good knowledge of HACCP, FSSC 22000 / GFSI, GMP, Environmental Monitoring programs and hygienic design is considered an advantage.
  • Fluency in Swedish and English, both written and spoken.
  • Good knowledge of relevant operating systems, including QDS and Axapta.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and other information.
  • Practical experience of laboratory work in a regulated production environment.
  • Experience of analytical, microbiological and/or sensory testing.
  • Experience of product release processes and quality deviation handling.
  • Familiarity with quality systems, documentation and audit participation.
  • Structured, organized and detail‑oriented.
