Job Description

QA Director (Based in China)

Location: China

Industry: Metal Processing Industry

The QA Director is responsible for leading and managing the global Quality Assurance department, including plants in China and Mexico. This role ensures all products and processes comply with internal standards and external regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities encompass developing and maintaining robust quality management systems, overseeing inspection and testing processes, and collaborating closely with Production, Engineering, and other teams to resolve quality issues. The position plays a critical role in driving continuous improvement and ensuring customer satisfaction within the domains of hot and cold metal forming, metal fabrication, surface treatments, and assembly of metal structures, while balancing cost and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain ISO-certified Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949) across all facilities.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise the global QA team in conducting effective in-process inspections, final product checks, and comprehensive audits.
  • Monitor and enforce strict compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Liaise closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Management teams to ensure product quality throughout the entire value chain, from raw material sourcing to final assembly.
  • Investigate, resolve, and prevent recurrence of quality issues, non-conformances, and customer complaints utilizing root cause analysis (RCA) and robust corrective/preventive action (CAPA) methodologies (e.g., 8D).
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all internal, external, customer, and regulatory body audits; manage responses and corrective action plans.
  • Review and approve material certifications, test reports, and inspection documentation for incoming materials and finished goods.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other quality tools and methodologies.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive quality performance reports, key metrics (KPIs), and strategic insights to senior management.
  • Lead the training, development, and performance management of QA staff to build and maintain a high-performing global team.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance within a manufacturing environment, specifically in metal processing industries
  • At least 5 years of experience in a full managerial role within Quality Assurance, demonstrating leadership of teams and systems.

Technical and Soft Skills:

  • In-depth technical knowledge of metal forming (stamping, CNC), fabrication, welding, and chemical surface treatment processes.
  • Expert familiarity with relevant quality management system standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949).
  • Proficient application of core quality tools and methodologies: FMEA, SPC, MSA, PPAP, 8D, CAPA.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM, optical comparators).
  • Hands-on experience with quality inspection software/equipment and ERP systems (SAP experience preferred).
  • Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple competing demands.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive, results-driven mindset.
  • Strong team collaboration skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
