Job Description
Venture Dynamics is seeking an experienced QA Coatings Inspector to support preservation and quality assurance operations in Norfolk, Virginia. The QA Coatings Inspector performs inspection, auditing, and documentation of surface preparation and coating applications in support of Navy and commercial ship repair operations. This role supports compliance with NAVSEA standards, AMPP QP-1 requirements, and customer specifications across shipyard and subcontractor activities. Assignments are project-based and may continue based on performance and operational needs.
Responsibilities
Perform inspections of surface preparation, coatings removal, and coating applications on vessels and marine structures
Monitor and document preservation activities to ensure compliance with NAVSEA Standard Items, SSPC, NACE, and customer specifications
Support implementation and maintenance of AMPP QP-1 program requirements across shipyard and subcontractor operations
Conduct audits and surveillance of internal operations and subcontractors performing preservation work
Generate and maintain inspection reports, quality records, and objective quality evidence documentation
Review specifications, work packages, and technical requirements to verify compliance with quality standards
Interface with customer representatives to address discrepancies, concerns, and inspection findings
Support training of QA personnel and production teams on quality requirements, procedures, and coating standards
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience in ship repair, manufacturing, or industrial environments with quality or coatings inspection responsibilities
Minimum 5 years of experience as a certified coatings inspector (NACE, AMPP, SSPC, PCI, or equivalent)
Strong knowledge of coatings systems, surface preparation methods, and preservation application requirements
Working knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, SSPC, NACE/AMPP, and ABS requirements
Experience performing audits, surveillance, and quality assurance inspections in shipyard or industrial environments
Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and quality documentation
Strong communication, organizational, and reporting skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Ability to obtain and maintain access to government facilities (DBIDS or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Navy or Department of Defense ship repair operations
Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and audit processes
ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or internal auditor certification
Experience interfacing with government customers and quality representatives
Additional Information
Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, and in industrial shipyard environments supporting preservation and coating operations. Duties may involve confined or elevated spaces, industrial blasting and coating areas, and active production zones. Exposure to industrial noise, dust, and environmental conditions is expected. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies, and respiratory protection may be required based on task or location. Reliable transportation is required to report to assigned shipyard or project locations. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts based on production needs. Limited travel (up to approximately 10%) may be required.
