About The Role

As a QA Automation Engineer at Hello Clever, you’ll lead the design and development of scalable automation frameworks across our web, API, and payment integrations. You’ll combine scripted automation with AI-powered testing tools, embed quality checks into CI/CD pipelines, and validate complex payment and loyalty workflows. Working closely with engineering and product teams, you’ll improve release confidence, strengthen platform reliability, and mentor junior QA engineers.

What You'll Be Doing

• Automation Leadership & Framework: Own QA automation architecture across Web, API, and E2E integration testing by designing, building, and scaling maintainable test automation frameworks.
• AI & Agentic Testing Innovation: Lead the evaluation, adoption, and integration of AI-powered and agentic testing platforms (e.g., TesterArmy, mabl, Testim, BrowserStack) to accelerate test creation using natural language and automate visual/UX regression checks.
• Hybrid Testing Strategy: Combine traditional scripted automation (Playwright/Selenium/Tools) with AI-assisted agent workflows (e.g., automated PR checks, AI test scaffolding, plain-English test definitions) to improve efficiency and reduce flakiness.
• Payment & Third-Party Integration Testing: Design and maintain mock services/stubs for external PSPs, banking rails, and webhooks to ensure deterministic, isolated test execution.
• Test Data Management (TDM): Manage test data strategies for complex transactional flows, including multi-currency accounts, loyalty balance calculations, and merchant offer rules.
• CI/CD & Quality Gates: Integrate automated suites into CI/CD pipelines with robust quality gates, reporting, quarantine/flake management, and failure triage loops.
• Compliance & Security: Ensure automated test suites comply with data privacy and security guidelines (e.g., masking sensitive cardholder/account data in logs and test reports).
• Release Readiness & Mentorship: Support release readiness through exploratory/manual testing when needed, provide risk assessments, and mentor/coach junior QA engineers.

What We're Looking For

• Experience: 5+ years of software testing experience with a strong focus on test automation and API testing.
• Framework Development: Hands-on experience building and maintaining modern automation frameworks from scratch.
• AI & Agentic Testing Awareness: Exposure to AI-assisted testing tools, plain-English test generation, or agentic QA workflows (e.g., TesterArmy, mabl, Testim, or BrowserStack AI features).
• Tech Stack: Strong proficiency with Playwright and TypeScript / JavaScript for scalable UI and API testing (Selenium and Java are good with us).
• API & Async Testing: In-depth understanding of API testing patterns (Authentication, Idempotency, Retries, Webhooks) and validating asynchronous/event-driven architectures.
• CI/CD Integration: Solid experience setting up and maintaining automated test suites within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Bitbucket Pipelines) with clear reporting.
• Root Cause Analysis: Strong skills in investigating test failures and production anomalies using application logs, network traces, and structured debugging tools.
• Language: Professional English proficiency (B2 level or above) with clear written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Domain Knowledge: Experience in Fintech, Digital Payments, Loyalty/Rewards programs, or E-commerce ecosystems.
• Agentic Testing Tools: Direct hands-on experience with TesterArmy, Testim, mabl, or similar AI-native testing platforms.
• Deep Payment Testing: Hands-on experience with payment gateways (PSPs), settlement, reconciliation, and transaction lifecycles.
• AI-Assisted Testing: Familiarity with AI-powered tools for test scaffolding, API test generation, or flaky test diagnosis.
• Performance & Contract Testing: Basic experience with performance/load testing tools (e.g., k6, Locust) or Contract Testing frameworks (e.g., Pact).
