What makes RightShip a great place to work at:

RightShip is an equal opportunity employer, and we champion diversity. Our teams are composed of individuals from different geographies, cultures, religions, ethnicities, races, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and generations. We believe that a diversity of experiences makes us stronger—as individuals, as communities and as an organization.

Don’t meet every single requirement of this role? Still apply! Research tells us that that women and underrepresented groups are less likely to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At RightShip we believe that the right hire is someone who makes an addition to our culture, rather than someone who fits in and conforms to our status quo. We want to add team members who not only value RightShip standards and workplace culture, but also bring an aspect of diversity that positively contributes to our work environment. If you are excited about this role, or about our company in general, we would love to hear from you!

We are seeking a QA Automation Engineer who will also take on the Scrum Master role for their squad. This dual-role position helps scale the quality and stability of our digital platforms through advanced UI test automation, while also driving delivery flow, transparency, and continuous improvement across the sprint cycle.

As a QA Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining automated UI test scripts using Playwright, driven by existing TestRail test cases. You will work closely with QA, engineering, and product teams during sprints to expand automation coverage and improve test reliability.

During regression and UAT periods, you will contribute to manual testing efforts, ensuring our releases meet both functional and business expectations.

As Scrum Master, you will facilitate Scrum ceremonies, remove impediments, coach the team on Agile practices, and coordinate release management activities — ensuring the squad delivers predictably and continuously improves.

You'll also explore AI-assisted testing strategies to speed up development and identify opportunities for intelligent test optimization.

Responsibilities

QA Automation & Testing

  • Develop and maintain UI test automation scripts using Playwright in TypeScript/JavaScript, aligned with TestRail cases.
  • Integrate and manage test scripts within GitHub repositories, following version control best practices.
  • Design and maintain CI-integrated test pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions) to detect UI regressions early.
  • Work with QA, product, and engineering teams to prioritize test automation coverage during sprints.
  • Support manual regression and UAT testing during release weeks to ensure stability and confidence.
  • Continuously identify and fill test coverage gaps, in both automated and manual areas.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot UI test failures and collaborate with developers to drive resolution.
  • Stay current with testing tools, trends, and best practices in automation and QA.
  • Contribute to load testing the platform.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate script generation and improve test case authoring.

Scrum Master Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies — backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily scrum, sprint review, and retrospectives — keeping them purposeful and timeboxed.
  • Maintain transparency of the backlog, sprint goal, and Definition of Done, and drive empiricism through inspection and adaptation of Scrum events and metrics.
  • Identify and remove impediments quickly, escalating cross-team blockers where needed.
  • Coach the Product Owner and Developers to self-manage, collaborate effectively, and continuously improve.
  • Coordinate release management activities, including version tracking, release documentation, and regression/UAT sign-off, in partnership with QA and DevOps.
  • Manage sprint and release administration in Jira (sprint creation and closure, sub-tasks, release versions, dashboards).
  • Drive actionable outcomes from retrospectives, tracking improvement items with clear owners and follow-through.

Shared / Cross-Cutting

  • Participate fully in sprint ceremonies: grooming, planning, retrospectives, and daily standups.
  • Work with QA, product, and engineering teams across multiple geographies to align priorities and delivery.
  • Balance hands-on automation/testing work with Scrum Master facilitation duties across the sprint cycle.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years working in a similar QA/automation role.
  • Strong experience with Playwright or comparable UI automation tools (e.g. Selenium, Cypress).
  • Hands-on experience with TestRail or other test case management tools.
  • Solid understanding of test methodologies (unit, regression, integration, E2E).
  • Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, or a strong willingness to upskill.
  • Familiarity with web technologies: HTML, CSS, and DOM/browser behavior.
  • Solid experience using Git, working collaboratively in shared codebases (e.g. GitHub).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and test integration workflows (e.g. GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Prior experience as a Scrum Master, or strong working knowledge of Scrum/Agile ceremonies and practices, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Jira administration for sprint and release management (sprints, versions, dashboards).
  • Experience working in Agile teams (Scrum).
  • Excellent knowledge of automation testing processes and methodologies.
  • Adept at working with cross-functional groups across multiple geographies.
  • Ability to deliver results with minimal supervision, and to balance competing priorities between hands-on QA work and Scrum Master facilitation.
  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Good communication and written skills in English.
