Job Title – Python Backend Developer
Location: Dubai, UAE

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Python Backend Developer to design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performance backend applications and APIs. The role will focus on building robust backend services, integrating databases and external systems, developing RESTful APIs, and supporting digital platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Python, Django/FastAPI/Flask, REST APIs, SQL databases, cloud technologies, and software development best practices Experience working with data-intensive platforms, product information systems, APIs, and supply-chain technology would be particularly relevant, given GS1 UAE's digital services and standards-based data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development

• 
  Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python
• 
  Build robust and reusable backend services, modules, and application components.
• 
  Develop clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following software engineering best practices.
• 
  Translate business and technical requirements into scalable backend solutions.
• 
  Troubleshoot application issues and optimize backend performance.

API Development & Integration

• 
  Design and develop RESTful APIs for internal and external applications.
• 
  Integrate third-party APIs and external systems with backend platforms.
• 
  Implement authentication, authorization, validation, error handling, and API security.
• 
  Develop APIs capable of handling structured product, business, and supply-chain data.
• 
  Collaborate with frontend developers to ensure seamless API integration.

Database Management

• 
  Design and optimize database schemas and data models.
• 
  Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server
• 
  Write efficient SQL queries, stored procedures, and database operations.
• 
  Implement data validation, integrity, indexing, and optimization strategies.
• 
  Support database migrations, backups, and performance monitoring.

Digital & Data Platforms

• 
  Develop backend services supporting product information, identifiers, master data, and digital services.
• 
  Work with structured data and standards-based information-sharing platforms.
• 
  Support integrations involving product data, traceability information, and business partner systems.
• 
  Contribute to backend services supporting digital tools and data-quality solutions.

GS1 UAE provides digital services such as Verified by GS1, BrandSync, Data Quality, My NumberBank, and EPCIS-related tools, while its standards support the electronic sharing of master, transaction, and event data.

Performance, Security & Scalability

• 
  Optimize backend applications for speed, reliability, scalability, and availability.
• 
  Implement secure coding practices and appropriate authentication mechanisms.
• 
  Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and production issues.
• 
  Implement logging, monitoring, error tracking, and system-health checks.
• 
  Design applications capable of supporting growing data volumes and user demand.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• 
  Develop unit, integration, and API tests for backend services.
• 
  Conduct debugging and root-cause analysis of application issues.
• 
  Work closely with QA engineers to identify and resolve defects.
• 
  Participate in code reviews and maintain high standards of code quality.
• 
  Implement automated testing as part of the development lifecycle.

Cloud, DevOps & Deployment

• 
  Deploy and maintain backend applications in cloud or on-premise environments.
• 
  Work with platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• 
  Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• 
  Use Git-based version control and modern development workflows.
• 
  Monitor application performance and support production releases.

Collaboration & Agile Development

• 
  Work closely with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps teams, product managers, and business stakeholders.
• 
  Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• 
  Translate functional requirements into technical specifications and development tasks.
• 
  Maintain technical documentation and API specifications.
• 
  Contribute to architecture discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

• 
  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3–6 years of professional experience in Python backend development.
• 
  Strong hands-on experience with Python and Django, FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks
• 
  Strong experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• 
  Proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
• 
  Experience with Git and modern software development workflows.
• 
  Understanding of cloud platforms and CI/CD practices.
• 
  Experience with Docker and containerized applications is preferred.
• 
  Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
