The Opportunity | Purchasing & Supply Chain Intern (6-Month Assignment)

Location Middleburg Heights, OH (greater Cleveland area)

Type Internship (6-Month Assignment)

Schedule 24-40 Hours per Week

Pay Rate $20/hour

Under the direction of the Purchasing Manager and Supply Chain team, the Purchasing & Supply Chain Intern will support a variety of strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives within Purchasing, Shipping, Receiving, and Supply Chain Operations. This position provides hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment while exposing the intern to procurement, supplier management, cost analysis, inventory management, reporting, and process improvement activities.

Your Challenge:

  • Assist with the development and organization of purchasing and supply chain training materials, onboarding resources, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Support the creation of a fastener product knowledge and training program by compiling technical information, industry standards, product specifications, supplier data, and internal procedures.
  • Assist with Power BI and Excel reporting projects, including spend analysis, inventory management, supplier performance metrics, purchasing trends, and supply chain data analysis.
  • Support the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, and visual analytics tools used by Purchasing and Supply Chain leadership.
  • Research and analyze purchasing spend data to identify cost reduction opportunities, supplier consolidation opportunities, and negotiation initiatives.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze data to support purchasing, inventory, shipping, and supply chain improvement projects.
  • Assist with supplier benchmarking, market research, and sourcing activities for consumable products and indirect materials.
  • Analyze purchasing, inventory, and supplier data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Assist with maintaining reports, metrics, dashboards, and project documentation.
  • Support supplier communications, quote requests, and follow-up activities as assigned.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, standardization, documentation, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Purchasing, Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Shipping, Receiving, and Accounting.
  • Perform other related duties, projects, and assignments as required

Your Expertise:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, Data Analytics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, business intelligence tools, or data visualization software preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Interest in purchasing, procurement, supply chain management, manufacturing, operations, or business analytics.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, or similar systems is preferred but not required.
