ASSIST IN BUILDING CUSTOM AUTOMATION EQUIPMENT THROUGH SMART SOURCING AT COILCRAFT

Position: Purchasing Specialist – Machine Build / Technical Sourcing Location: Cary, Illinois Coilcraft, Inc. is a privately held global manufacturer headquartered in Cary, Illinois, with a 75+ year reputation for engineering excellence. In addition to producing high-performance magnetic components, we design and build custom automation equipment to support our manufacturing operations. We are seeking a Purchasing Specialist to support sourcing efforts for our machine design and build team. This role focuses on procuring machined components and technical parts used in custom automation equipment, working directly with engineering and suppliers to ensure parts meet design, cost, and delivery requirements.

About the Role and Your Impact

  • Source machined components and technical parts used in custom machine builds
  • Work from engineering drawings, specifications, and requirements to identify and procure parts
  • Communicate directly with suppliers regarding quotes, lead times, and technical questions
  • Manage purchase orders and track deliveries to support machine build timelines
  • Support supplier selection, qualification, and development
  • Investigate supply issues and resolve quality or delivery problems
  • Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to support new builds
  • Assist with cost reduction initiatives and sourcing strategies
  • Develop reporting, summaries, and basic forecasting related to purchasing activity

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree preferred (Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field) or equivalent experience
  • 0–3 years of purchasing, manufacturing, or technical sourcing experience
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with data
  • Interest in working with engineering drawings and technical components
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal teams

Preferred Skills

  • Experience sourcing machined parts or custom components
  • Exposure to manufacturing or automation environments
  • Familiarity with MRP systems and purchasing processes
  • Ability to read or interpret basic engineering drawings (or willingness to learn)
