Description

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional
facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the
Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the
mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire
skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

We are hiring a Purchasing Officer II, which will play a vital role through performing technical
administrative work for the procurement of and payments for goods and services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops and issues request for quotes to vendors.
  • Researches and creates requisitions for goods and non-professional services when the expenditures
    amount exceeds the agency's small purchase authority.
  • Coordinates with various departments for input to the contract requests.
  • Creates delivery orders and purchase order for purchases.
  • Complete the purchase order, receives approval and forward the approved purchase order to the vendor
    for processing.
  • Reviews request for local purchases by phone in in writing, authorizes such purchases in accordance
    with
    the model procurement code.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Two years of purchasing experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Experience in purchasing will substitute for the required college on a year for year basis. Certification with the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing as a Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) will substitute for one year of the college requirement OR certification as a Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) will substitute for two years of the college requirement.

Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
