Description

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

We are hiring a Purchasing Officer I. This position performs beginning level duties in the procurement of and/or payment of goods and non-professional services on an agency wide-basis.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Gathers, prepares and maintains purchase and payment documents.
  • Works with vendors to collect quotes, invoices and etc.
  • Pro Card Holder and reconciles purchases.
  • Monitors purchases made for conformance with the Model Procurement Code, (KRS 45A).
  • Performs beginning level duties in the performance of and, or, payment of goods and non-professional services in accordance with the agency’s Small Purchase Authority.
  • Performs other duties as directed by Fiscal Manager and Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in purchasing will substitute for the required college on a year for year basis. Certification with the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing as a Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) will substitute for one year of the college requirement OR certification as a Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) will substitute for two years of the college requirement.

Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
