General Purpose

Work under the direction of The Creamery Purchasing Specialist to purchase grocery, home and gift, and other merchandise and/or supplies, along with all purchase orders and associated paperwork, to support The Creamery business. Maintain accurate records of vendors and product shipments.

Job Duties and ResponsibilitiES

  • Ensure timely ordering and delivery of products.
  • Responsible for the purchasing from a specific list of vendors as provided by the purchasing specialist.
  • Assist with the management of purchase orders; monitor delivery schedules and backordered product; communicate with the purchasing specialist and adjust orders accordingly.
  • Verify pricing on invoices and manage expenses and paperwork under the direction of the purchasing specialist.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding broken and/or missing items.
  • Assist with monthly inventory counts.
  • Communicate with inventory associates on orders placed, expected arrival dates, changes to orders, and on any inventory related questions or issues.
  • Assist the purchasing specialist in evaluating current vendors based on price and quality.
  • Stay current on consumer trends to better assist with buying decisions.
  • Make product recommendations to the purchasing specialist.
  • Perform product trainings for retail and kitchen staff; train and empower them to address the needs of our guests; train on cross-selling products.
  • Regularly interact with retail and kitchen staff to gain knowledge of trends, preferences, requests, etc. and communicate with the purchasing specialist.
  • Look for opportunities to reduce costs (e.g., consolidate purchase orders to minimize freight costs) and communicate with the purchasing specialist.
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0 to 1 year of purchasing or related experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems, specifically Shopify
  • Skill in proficient computer usage
  • Able to work with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork
  • Able to follow directions and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
