Pupil Personnel Worker (PPW)
The Pupil Personnel Worker serves as a key liaison among the school, home, community, service agencies, and other organizations to support students' academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and basic needs. The position provides case management, student and family support, crisis intervention, service coordination, and advocacy to help remove barriers to student success. The Pupil Personnel Worker maintains confidentiality, communicates effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners, and works independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary liaison between the school, students, families, community organizations, service agencies, and juvenile/circuit court resources.
- Assess student and family needs and coordinate appropriate interventions, referrals, and support services.
- Provide individual and group interventions to help students develop self-awareness, personal responsibility, problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Conduct home visits and communicate with parents and guardians regarding student attendance, academic progress, behavior, and overall well-being.
- Identify and assist students experiencing attendance concerns, adjustment difficulties, homelessness, behavioral challenges, family-related issues, or other barriers to educational success.
- Coordinate services for students participating in alternative education, home/hospital teaching, and other specialized educational programs.
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate student, family, and staff programs and workshops addressing identified needs.
- Collaborate with educators, administrators, counselors, families, and community providers to develop and implement individualized support strategies.
- Assist with the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to promote positive and effective learning environments.
- Provide crisis intervention and serve as a designated support professional during school emergencies and other critical situations.
- Assist families in accessing resources that address students' basic needs and other social-service concerns.
- Monitor student attendance and coordinate intervention and follow-up services for students experiencing excessive absenteeism.
- Collect, review, analyze, and maintain accurate student information, including attendance, disciplinary, academic, and service-related records.
- Prepare student performance histories, reports, documentation, and other records for meetings, conferences, and disciplinary proceedings.
- Assist with the preparation of juvenile service reports and other required student-service documentation.
- Support accurate student registration and ensure records are complete and maintained in accordance with established standards.
- Interpret and communicate school policies, procedures, expectations, and available services to students, parents/guardians, staff, and community members.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student and family information and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and district policies.
- Provide consultation and follow-up services to students, families, educators, and community partners as needed.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary services and monitor the effectiveness of interventions and referrals.
- Participate in professional development related to student services, legal requirements, behavioral interventions, school policies, and best practices.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
