Key Responsibilities

The Pumpman is a specialized deck rating responsible to the Chief Officer for the technical execution of cargo and ballast operations. This role focuses on the efficient handling of loading, discharging, tank cleaning, and gas-freeing processes. Key duties include inspecting and maintaining the pump-room, performing cargo sampling and ullage readings, and ensuring that all valves and piping systems are correctly marked and operational.

Technical responsibilities also involve the maintenance of cargo equipment, including changing gaskets and flanges, managing the pump-man store, and strictly following lubrication schedules for deck machinery.
