Provides cardiopulmonary function testing and non-critical respiratory care to patients from newborn to 21 years of age consistent with accepted standards. Effectively and efficiently functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team that assesses, implements, plans, and evaluates patient care services. Proactively supports delivery of safe and clinically effective patient care while providing exemplary customer service at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

Education

  • Associate's degree from accredited respiratory therapy program

Certification Summary

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Respiratory Care Professional current Georgia license
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organizational capabilities and communication skills
  • Exhibits enthusiasm and willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides cardiopulmonary function testing for patients from newborn to 21 years of age integrating emotional, psychosocial, educational, and growth and developmental needs of the patient and family within 6 months of employment.
  • Independently performs procedures per national and departmental standards, including spirometry, plethysmography, diffusing capacity (DLCO), pulmonary stress test and other procedures as ordered.
  • Independently provides non-critical respiratory care, including patient assessment, aerosol therapy, patient education, and airway assessment and management.
  • Assesses and appropriately addresses patients' learning needs, including comprehension, understanding, and compliance of the patient and family.
  • Participates in care planning and implementation and suggests alternatives which lead to desired clinical outcomes.
  • Communicates effectively via verbal and/or written documentation.
  • Performs competently in clinical and non-clinical problem-solving.
