Job Summary

The Pullet Sanitation Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in layer and pullet barns through a comprehensive 13-step cleaning process. This role involves various cleaning techniques, including dry cleaning, power washing, whitewashing, manure pit maintenance, and fumigation. The Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring biosecurity and maintaining optimal conditions for pullet growth and layer productivity.

Essential Job Functions

Perform hand scraping of manure and feathers from cages, manure boards, and beams

Clean walls, beams, and cages using high-pressure air and hot water systems

Conduct power washing of barn structures and equipment

Manage manure removal and disposal from barns

Execute fumigation processes, including whitewashing and Veracid application

Operate various cleaning equipment, including thermo foggers and backpack sprayers

Maintain and properly use protective gear and apparel

Participate in cross-training and position rotation as required

Ensure compliance with USDA, FDA regulations, and company Good Manufacturing Practices

Adhere to Food Defense Program guidelines

Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Ability to follow detailed cleaning procedures and safety protocols

Physical capability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 lbs.

Willingness to work in dusty and wet environments

Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks

Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and biosecurity

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in power washing or industrial cleaning

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Familiarity with agricultural or poultry environments

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in layer and pullet barns, exposing the specialist to various environmental conditions including dust, moisture, and cleaning chemicals. The role requires the use of protective equipment such as boots, coveralls, eye protection, and respiratory masks. Work involves physical demands such as standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and twisting on different surfaces, including concrete. The environment can be fast-paced, requiring adaptability and attention to detail. Some flexibility in working hours may be necessary to accommodate barn cleaning schedules.
