Essential Functions
- Work with the Street Department, Solid Waste Pickup and Water Department.
- Works with garbage, sewage, chemicals and performs trenching.
- Remove leaves and limbs from residential properties and roadside areas.
- Assist with maintaining the water and sewer distribution system.
- Assist with keeping storm water system unobstructed.
- Performs digging, hauling, raking, and other manual labor activities.
- Operates leaf vacuum, wood chipper, skid steer, and other equipment as needed.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

QualificationsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High school Diploma/GED required.
- Valid NC license required, CDL License preferred
- Hospitality experience strongly desired.
- Must have good communication skills, and a commitment to providing responsive and conscientious customer service.
- Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs, multiple task demands, and work structures.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, emails, and memos.
- Ability to effectively present job related information upon request to customers.
- Ability to solve practical problems and direct customer questions/concerns to the appropriate department staff.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule formats.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule
Working conditions
- Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive nature.
- Working outdoors exposed to extreme elements (ex. heat/cold/wind/rain/snow), at times will be in an enclosed vehicle protected from extreme weather conditions.
- Work in wet or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, with potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and very loud noises.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, using hands/fingers to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
- Must be able to see up close and at a distance (20 feet or more), good peripheral vision.
- Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 100 pounds, able to lift items and throw over shoulder, stand, walk or sit for prolonged periods.
- Hours – generally Monday – Friday, 7:30 am -4:30 pm, with occasional nights/weekends/OT/ holidays as required. Work hours subject to change. Must be available for on-call if necessary.
