Job Description

Posting number: 2026-00281

Department: PW - MOSQUITO CONTROL

Job classification: Mosquito Control Technician

Posting type: Open

Categories: Environmental Services, Public Works, Green-Collar/Environmental

Are you looking for hands-on outdoor work that helps protect public health and the environment? In this seasonal role, you’ll support mosquito and aquatic weed control efforts that make a direct impact on the community’s quality of life during our dusk to dawn operations. This is a great opportunity to gain field experience while learning from experienced professionals.

You’ll assist with larviciding and adulticiding operations, helping control mosquito populations through field inspections and treatment activities. Working alongside a Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control Specialist, you’ll learn essential techniques in entomological surveys and pest management while gaining practical, on-the-job training.

Your responsibilities may include operating spray equipment and vehicles, assisting with aquatic weed control, and performing routine maintenance and servicing of equipment. Much of your work will take place outdoors, supporting daily field operations.

If you enjoy working outside, learning new skills, and being part of a team that supports public health and environmental safety, this seasonal position offers a meaningful and rewarding experience.

Examples of duties

Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.

Licenses and/or Certificates: Possession and maintenance of a State of Florida driver's license.

Qualifications

You have a basic understanding of mosquito breeding habitats and can identify common nuisance species through field inspections and observations. You’re detail-oriented and able to gather information, maintain accurate records, and support investigations that guide effective mosquito control efforts.

You’re comfortable working outdoors in challenging environments—walking long distances over uneven terrain, including wooded and marsh areas, and carrying equipment and materials needed for treatment. You can safely operate vehicles and equipment such as spray trucks, waterborne spray systems, trailers, forklifts, and basic tools, and you’re able to perform minor mechanical repairs when needed.

Safety is a priority for you. You’re willing and able to wear required protective equipment for extended periods and work around moving equipment and varying field conditions. You follow written and verbal instructions carefully and use good judgment when solving problems in the field.

You’re dependable, organized, and able to manage priorities and meet deadlines. With strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset, you build positive working relationships while supporting safe and effective mosquito and aquatic vegetation control operations.
