What is the compensation package?

Pay: (G30) $30.95 - $42.67 per hour (depending on experience)

What are the main duties? (For the full classification specification, click here.)

  • Obtain professional development and certification training to improve skills and knowledge of inspection.

  • Use GPS equipment to gather data electronically from the field for utilities, street improvements, and other features to be mapped to the city GIS system.

  • Complete and submit inspection reports or records and future reference using electronic tablets or other devices as approved.

  • Use computer software programs to review engineering drawings, reports, and document project inspections, and other functions as assigned.

  • Provide inspections for permits issues by the City, development projects, and engineering capital projects, in accordance with general engineering principles and Provo City standards and specifications.

  • Review project plans, building permits and/or other designs to review compliance with standards set by Provo City, various codes, or standard engineering principles.

  • Provide project oversight and inspections reports for all permits, development and projects within the city.

  • Prepare and submit detailed inspection reports documenting the findings of each inspection within a timely manner, with notification to the owner and//or other contractor.

  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, developers, the general public and other agencies to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, regulations and standards.

  • Represent the Public Works Inspection group at pre-construction meetings for developments and projects, as required.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum requirements?

Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of education and experience.

  • Associates degree

  • Two years of experience in inspection/construction or a closely related field.

  • OR High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and four years of direct job-related experience.

  • A valid, lawful driver’s license.

  • ACI certification for Concrete Construction, NICET III certifications for Stormwater, Wastewater, Water, Sewer, Asphalt, Concrete, and Soils.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on April 2, 2026 Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
