WHO WE ARE
The Department of General Services, The Division of Facilities Management (DFM) delivers operational and mission critical services 24 hours a day seven days a week on behalf of County residents and Montgomery County Government. DFM manages over 400 County buildings, ensuring they are maintained at the highest level to provide a comfortable environment for employees and the public.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Public Service Craftworkers performs general skilled carpentry work and repairs in the construction, alteration and maintenance of buildings. Areas include but are not limited to floors (floor material types include but are not limited to wood, tile, ceramic, carpet, etc.,), roofs, roof drains and gutters, partitions, doors, windows, screens, fences, wood fixtures and furniture.
The employee regularly conducts facility inspections, correcting minor electrical, mechanical or structural problems on wide range of building types. This employee investigates reported facility maintenance problems and resolves them independently and/or recommends more comprehensive action. Daily work duties also include but are not limited to ordering materials; preparing daily written reports; closing out completed service tickets, referring service tickets for additional services, scheduling work and leading less skilled employees in the performance of work when necessary; and participating in snow/ice control measures during inclement weather, which occasionally requires unscheduled overtime. As part of routine general maintenance for buildings, the employee installs/makes adjustments and repairs locks to doors, hinges and other hardware
Requires the ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
The individual selected for this position will be considered an “Essential Employee.” Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.
SOME WORK IS CARRIED OUT AFTER NORMAL WORKING HOURS AND ON WEEKENDS. EMPLOYEE MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK ALL HOURS. The Division of Facilities Management is a 24/7/operation and as such, Craftworkers are subject to work a mandatory stand-by rotation schedule.
Experience: Four (4) years of semi-skilled experience in building/structural construction, maintenance, repair and alteration involving the application of two or more skilled trades.
Education: Ability to read and write and carry out oral and written instructions.
Equivalency: None.
License Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license appropriate to the type(s) of equipment being operated
