About the Department
The New York Road Runners Public Affairs department encompasses NYRR ’s Public Relations, Government Affairs, and Community Engagement. Public Relations shares the stories of NYRR participants, events, and programs with media to drive awareness of NYRR ’s nonprofit mission, elevating the organization and its executives as industry leaders, while also enhancing and protecting the company ’s reputation. Government Relations & Community Engagement manages NYRR's relationships with local and state elected officials, and governmental agencies, as well as its relationships with community stakeholders, from our runners and clubs to like-minded organizations. Public Affairs serves as a bridge for the organization and external stakeholders to advance NYRR’s mission by building and strengthening relationships with media, government, community stakeholders, and key partners across New York City and beyond.
About the Position
Direct reporting to the Chief Communications Officer and Head of Public Relations— the PR Coordinator – Talent / Grand Marshals will join the department seasonally, ahead of and during the TCS New York City Marathon, from August through early November. I In this role, during lead-up working an average of 30 hours a week with race week hours increasing with potential overtime, the PR Coordinator – Talent / Grand Marshals will be responsible for supporting the logistics for the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon Grand Marshals, which will include a celebrity Grand Marshal and multiple honorary Grand Marshals in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the five-borough New York City Marathon. Support will focus on the lead-up to marathon day, race week—including coordinating travel, hospitality, media appearances, all race-week events and activities—and the race-day logistics of their VIP experience.
