The Utah Department of Cultural and Community Engagement (CCE) is looking for a skilled and motivated communications professional to join our marketing and communications team as the Public Information Officer. This is a full-time position for a mid-level to experienced communications professional. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the central point of contact for CCE public information.
  • Manage messaging development, editing, refinement and approval to build name recognition and brand identity for the department while highlighting many programs and services.
  • Integrate strategic communications best practices in CCE’s multimedia storytelling, including tracking analytics or other performance measures to evaluate effectiveness.
  • Act as the central content manager for CCE’s routine storytelling channels including blog posts, social media and newsletters.
  • Edit and write material for accuracy, audience, voice and format based on a planned editorial calendar.
  • Design and implement social media strategies to engage with defined audiences and demographic groups.
  • Manage news media relations, including vetting incoming requests, advising proactive pitching, coordinating reactive responses, contributing to media events and refining messaging.
  • Act as a media liaison and spokesperson who also prepares subject matter experts for media interviews.
  • Define public information measures of success, document key metrics and evaluate effectiveness on a regular basis.
  • Execute strategic marketing plans for specific outreach events, assets or collateral that facilitate community engagement with CCE’s programs and services.
  • Work with graphic artists, web designers, photographers and videographers to gather and communicate information in a visual way.
  • Review outgoing materials for quality and conformance with agency brand identity.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Has experience related to media relations, social media and coordinating multimedia assets.
  • Has experience working in a team environment.
  • Is detail oriented and a self-starter.
  • Works collaboratively and productively over telework.
  • Interacts with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, respect and professionalism.
  • Uses word processing (Google platforms), presentations, layout/design, video editing and web-publishing software applications.
  • Understands principles, theories and practices of marketing and communications as a management function and profession.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understands the agency and its organizational program(s).
