Job Duties:

This position serves as a Public Health Nutritionist 3/Registered Dietitian (RD) within a clinic providing services primarily for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and to other public health programs as needed. This position has clinical, administrative, and community job responsibilities.

The major functions of work for the Public Health Nutritionist 3 within the clinic setting include:

  • Conducting nutritional assessments and counseling to WIC participants
  • Performing individual high-risk nutrition counseling to the most vulnerable WIC participants
  • Managing special formula ordering and inventory
  • Serving as the breastfeeding coordinator and as the subject matter expert in nutrition and breastfeeding for the community

Administratively, the major functions of work include:

  • Evaluating WIC clinic activities and providing feedback to improve clinic quality of services and takes an active role in completing required annual clinic management and self-management evaluations
  • Trains new staff
  • Serves as preceptor for eligible dietetic interns, and as liaison between the WIC clinic and external community partners

Within the community, the major functions of work include:

  • Conducting outreach to community partners regarding specific patient care needs and maintains effective working relationships with all medical providers
  • Reporting community needs or concerns back to regional leadership
  • Participates in community health fairs and other events to increase community awareness of public health topics and promote services provided by clinic locations
