About the Role

Mackenzie District Council is looking for a Public Facilities, Parks and Places Officer to support the delivery and management of Council’s public facilities, parks, and places across the district.

This is a varied role covering a broad range of activities, including contractor management, community liaison, project coordination, facilities support, and asset and maintenance planning.

The role will suit someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable managing multiple priorities and wants to be involved in practical projects and services that are visible within the community.

Responsibilities include:

• Building and maintaining effective relationships with Community Boards, community groups, contractors and key stakeholders

• Supporting the delivery of Council’s Public Facilities, Parks and Places programmes and projects

• Coordinating and monitoring contractors delivering maintenance, cleaning and improvement works

• Assisting with the management of Council facilities including community halls, public toilets, swimming pools, Twizel Event Centre and pensioner housing

• Supporting the management and maintenance of parks, reserves, playgrounds, walking tracks, cemeteries and other public spaces

• Responding to customer requests and working with internal teams to resolve issues

• Preparing reports, updates and information relating to public facilities, parks, and places

About You

We are looking for someone with strong organisational skills, practical problem-solving ability and the confidence to work with a range of stakeholders.

You will be able to manage competing priorities, coordinate work effectively and build positive working relationships.

You will also have:

• At least 2 years’ experience working in parks and facilities or a similar role

• Experience managing contractors, projects or service delivery

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow processes

• Sound judgement and the ability to resolve issues effectively as well as work well under pressure

• A full, valid Class 1 driver licence

A relevant qualification or experience in parks and recreation, facilities management, community development or a related discipline would be advantageous.
