THIRD CIRCUIT PUBLIC DEFENDER

Position: Legal Assistant I

Location: Live Oak, Florida

The Law Offices of Cliff Wilson Jr., Public Defender’s Office, Third Judicial Circuit, has an immediate opening for a Legal Assistant. This full-time position provides highly responsible legal assistant support within a Division of the Public Defender's Office. Legal Assistants work in a team environment with each assistant providing support for 3-4 attorneys. Examples of work performed include preparing and filing motions, orders, and subpoenas; scanning and indexing documents into the electronic case file; preparing attorney calendars for court; preparing documents for e-filing; handling calls and making appointments for the assigned attorneys; typing correspondence for the attorney when needed and other duties which may vary by specific Division assignment.

Minimum Starting Salary: $31,200.00 but will be commensurate with experience.

Minimum Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or an equivalency diploma and at least two (2) years of progressively responsible secretarial experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Skills:

Must type at least 35 words per minute.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Ability to prioritize multiple assignments based on importance.

Ability to work within a team environment.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in the legal field or court system.

Knowledge and proficiency in scanning and indexing documents electronically.

Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
