The purpose of this position is to provide civil legal assistance in the areas of public benefits in our Port St. Lucie office offering representation and advocacy to individuals, families, and vulnerable communities in need of support. Public benefits include Social Security Disability, SSI, SNAP, unemployment compensation and State funded cash benefits.
· Candidates must be eligible for and maintain Certified Legal Intern (CLI) status in accordance with Florida Supreme Court requirements. CLI certification is time-limited (generally up to 18 months), and continued employment in this role is contingent upon maintaining active certification and taking the first bar exam available after graduation.
· Current law student or recent law school graduate eligible for CLI certification under Florida Supreme Court rule. If not currently a Certified Legal Intern at the time of hire, the individual must obtain certification before onboarding.
Knowledge of CMS a plus.

The starting salary for attorneys in this position is $68,000. This is the salary for any law school graduate who has not yet passed the bar. The starting salary for paralegals in position is $38,500. Both salaries are on a union scales and adjust upward depending on experience. FRLS offers a very generous benefits package that includes 403(b) with employer-paid contribution; health insurance (medical, dental, and vision) for employees and their dependents; malpractice insurance; paid leave (up to 5 weeks of PTO, 2 personal days, and 13 holidays); law school loan repayment assistance. FRLS attorneys and paralegals operate in a hybrid work environment, requiring advocates to work in their assigned office at least three days per week.

Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. (FRLS) was founded in 1966 as a private, non-profit corporation. FRLS provides free civil legal assistance to indigents and low-income elderly people in thirteen counties in South Central Florida. FRLS also provides legal assistance to migrant workers throughout the state of Florida.
Currently, FRLS has five regional offices with a staff of over 100, including 50 plus attorneys, specializing in Elder Law, Employment, Economic Stability, Housing and Farm-Worker Law.
