The Public Area Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and appearance of all public areas within the hotel, including lobbies, restrooms, corridors, elevators, meeting spaces, and other designated areas. This position plays a key role in ensuring a clean, welcoming, and safe environment for guests and associates, contributing directly to guest satisfaction and the hotel’s overall presentation standards.

Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:

  • Clean, dust, mop, vacuum, and sanitize all assigned public areas and restrooms according to daily checklists and established standards.
  • Replenish restroom and supply room items including toiletries, paper products, and cleaning supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of lobby furniture, glass surfaces, fixtures, carpets, and floors.
  • Clean and polish metal surfaces such as elevator doors, handrails, and signage.
  • Empty trash receptacles, replace liners, and ensure waste is properly disposed of.
  • Respond promptly to guest requests or inquiries and report any maintenance or safety issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness in back-of-house areas, including associate corridors and service elevators.
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is properly maintained and stored safely after use.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support special cleaning projects, deep cleaning schedules, or event setup and teardown as assigned.
  • Report any lost and found items to the Housekeeping Office in accordance with hotel policy.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
  • Display daily professional, courteous, attentive, helpful, and positive attitude towards all guests, fellow employees, and managers.
  • Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team to reach common goals.
  • Perform other job duties as requested by supervisors/managers as other job duties may be assigned as needed.
  • Understanding Sonesta’s company and safety policies and maintain compliance with OSHA and the health department requirements.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Valid Driver’s License preferred.
  • Previous Housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred, particularly in a hotel environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, peers, and supervisors.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintain cleanliness and guest satisfaction.

Education and Experience:

  • Highschool diploma or GED required.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced hotel environment requires teamwork, efficiency, and guest service awareness.
  • Work involves exposure to cleaning agents and frequent guest interactions.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and handling cleaning equipment or supplies.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and push or pull up to 100 pounds (cleaning carts, vacuums, etc.).
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying environmental conditions (indoor/outdoor).

Expected Hours of Work:

  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
  • Must be flexible to work various days and various shifts of the week to include weekends, holidays, days, nights and overnight.
  • Regular attendance in conformance with the standards which have been established by the hotel from time to time is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Pay Range

  • $28.20-$33.14- Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills, and job specific/overall experience.
