Compensation: £42,000 - £46,000 / year


The Public Affairs Officer will help shape our engagement with UK political, regulatory, and policy stakeholders. The role will help deliver public affairs strategies and executions that influence public policy, protect organisational interests, and enhance our reputation with government, parliamentarians, regulators, and key external partners.

The successful candidate will monitor and analyse political developments, manage stakeholder relationships, and provide insight to senior leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage UK public affairs strategies aligned with organisational objectives
  • Manage relationships with MPs, Peers, civil servants, local authorities, regulators, and advisers
  • Monitor and analyse UK political, legislative, and regulatory developments, producing timely briefings and recommendations
  • Help draft high-quality policy papers, briefings, consultation responses, and stakeholder communications
  • Work closely with research, communications, media, and internal policy teams to ensure joined-up messaging
  • Work with external public affairs agencies and consultants where required
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable ethical standards and transparency regulations or laws
  • Work to build links throughout the Federation, at both national and regional levels.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • At least two years of experience in public affairs, government relations, policy, or a related role in the UK
  • Strong understanding of the UK political system, Parliament, devolved administrations, and policymaking processes and the role of the media in shaping political narratives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond quickly to political developments
  • Experience working in or with Parliament, government departments, regulators, political parties, trade unions or campaign groups.
  • Knowledge of the policing and criminal justice sector and relevant policy landscape would be an advantage
  • Experience working in a high-profile organisation subject to scrutiny, would be an advantage
  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent experience
