PT - Mascot Performer & Engagement Coordinator

Salary:
$15.15 per hour

of Function:
The Mascot Performer & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for bringing the college mascot to life and enhancing school spirit through dynamic performances and community engagement. This role involves managing mascot appearances, maintaining the mascot costume, and coordinating with various departments to ensure the mascot’s presence at key events. This role requires creativity, organizational skills, and a passion for promoting school spirit and engagement.

Typical Duties:

  • Serves Students. Mascot Performance and Maintenance:
    Performs as the college mascot at athletic events, community functions, and other college-related activities. Develops and executes entertaining routines and skits to engage audiences according to an established mascot persona. Ensures the mascot costume is well-maintained, cleaned after each use, and in good condition. Participates in initial and ongoing mascot training with the AWC Spirit Team and the Marketing and Communications Department to learn proper mascot engagement and refine the mascot persona.
  • Event Coordination: Schedules and coordinates mascot appearances in collaboration with event organizers. Manages logistics for mascot travel and accommodations when necessary. Works closely with the Athletics and Marketing teams to maximize mascot visibility.
  • Community Engagement: Fosters relationships with local schools, businesses, and organizations to arrange mascot appearances. Represents the college at community events to promote school spirit and engagement. Coordinates with charitable organizations for mascot participation in community service events.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Collaborates with the marketing team to promote the mascot and the request process. Partners with the Director of Content Strategy & Development to promote the mascot’s activities and appearances on social media. Develops strategies to increase mascot visibility and engagement with the college community.
  • Supports and participates in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Arizona Driver’s License or Equivalent

  • Non-Exempt

Position Type & Work Schedule:

  • Part-time
  • Up to 19 hours per week
  • Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of or ability to maintain organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures
  • Knowledge of event coordination and logistics
  • Knowledge of customer service and audience engagement practices
  • Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, college system platforms, software, and applications especially those specific to the department operations
  • Skill and ability to be self-directed and to manage one’s own time
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Skill in engaging diverse audiences through interactive presentations, activities, or performances
  • Skill in organizing and coordinating multiple activities, schedules, and event-related responsibilities
  • Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to provide assistance in a professional and supportive manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a professional manner

Work Environment:

  • Working environment may include various locations across the service district, with varying noise levels, indoor and/or outdoor locations as needed to support program, department or institutional needs
  • Must be able to perform duties in a variety of weather conditions
  • Indoor athletic venues and locations for athletic events, such as practice and games, possible high noise level
  • Outdoor athletic venues and locations for athletic events, such as practice and games, are subject to different weather and possible high noise levels

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to wear and perform in a mascot costume for extended periods
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform energetic routines
  • Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
  • May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times, a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or twist
  • Safely and appropriately operate golf carts or district vehicles
  • Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises

Travel:

  • Required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation, and as needed to support program, department, and institutional needs
