Summary:

Instructional Assistants will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of a basic skills program or educational programing and performing duties as directed by the educational specialist or classroom teacher.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Individual tutoring or one-on-one support for a student with special needs
  • Assistance progress monitoring of students, including behavior charts & data
  • Assisting classroom teacher with any assigned duties, including classroom and material prep
  • Attending specials with assigned class of students or individual student
  • Transporting students to and from lavatories, nurse, admin offices, etc.
  • Assisting with arrival and dismissal as it relates to transportation
  • Assistance with daily hygeine of students, including diapering and toileting; Lifting may be required
  • Physical intervention with students in crisis required
  • Provide a safe, welcoming environment for all students
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal

Qualifications:

  1. Education and Experience
  2. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  3. Associates degree or higher OR completion of two years of post-secondary education OR 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university preferred
  4. Experience with special needs population preferred
  5. Experience working with students with severe/complex behavioral/emotional issues preferred
  6. Professional Certifications
  7. CPR/First Aid certification preferred (Ability to maintain provided by CCIU upon hire)

Hourly Rate (2026-2027 School Year):

The IA pay scale is broken down below for you to reference.

Please note: IA rates below are for the 2025-2026 school-year as a point of reference, rates to be confirmed shortly for the 26-27 SY.

  • 0 - 9 yrs experience = $19.38
  • 10 - 13 yrs experience = $21.29
  • 14 - 17 yrs experience = $23.19
  • 18+ yrs experience = $25.11
  • *Bachelor's degree is equivalent to 9 yrs experience on the scale = $19.38
  • *Master's degree is equivalent to 15 yrs experience on the scale = $23.19

Schedule:

Part-Time: Monday-Friday, 6.5 hours a day (8 AM - 3 PM); 185 days per year (186 days year one)

About Chester County Intermediate Unit

Created in 1971 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly, the Chester County Intermediate Unit is a regional educational service agency that exists to provide quality, cost-effective services to the community and its residents. The Chester County Intermediate Unit administers instructional, enrichment and administrative programs and services to Chester County’s 12 public school districts, and to over 45 private and parochial schools in the county. These programs include instructional, remedial and enrichment services for regular and special education students and career and technical education programs for secondary and post-secondary students. The CCIU provides direct instruction to over 5,000 students a year and support services to an additional 30,000 students a year.

In addition, the IU supports teachers, school administrators, school directors and school districts through a multitude of services, including, but not limited to: business and administrative services, communications services, technology services and human resources. The diversity of CCIU programs enables IU staff to interact with school district personnel at all levels and to maintain a cohesive educational network throughout Chester County.
