Responsibilities

Position Summary The Part-Time Facility Supervisor provides shift leadership for recreation facility operations. This working supervisor coordinates staff coverage, monitors service and safety standards, responds to incidents and patron concerns, completes assigned operational procedures, and serves as the primary on-duty resource within the authority established by management.

  • Provides on-duty leadership for facility operations and assigned part-time staff during scheduled shifts
  • Conducts opening, closing, and routine facility inspections and verifies completion of assigned operational checklists
  • Coordinates staff assignments, breaks, coverage, and immediate adjustments needed to maintain service and safety
  • Monitors facility conditions, participant activity, and staff adherence to established policies and procedures
  • Responds to emergencies, injuries, alarms, behavioral concerns, and operational disruptions and initiates appropriate escalation
  • Addresses patron questions and complaints professionally and refers matters outside assigned authority to management
  • Completes incident, accident, shift, cash-handling, equipment, and maintenance documentation as assigned
  • Supports access control, reservations, programs, rentals, events, and space transitions during the shift
  • Secures assigned spaces, keys, equipment, funds, and records according to established procedures
  • Provides coaching and direction to part-time staff and communicates performance or conduct concerns to the appropriate manager without conducting formal disciplinary action unless authorized
  • Communicates shift conditions, unresolved issues, follow-up needs, and significant incidents to incoming staff and management
  • Participates in required training, meetings, emergency drills, and operational reviews
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, or ability to obtain within the timeframe established by the employer
  • Prior customer service, recreation, facility, hospitality, or related operational experience
  • Demonstrated leadership, judgment, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to follow emergency procedures, maintain accurate documentation, and manage multiple priorities during a shift
  • Ability to operate standard office, access-control, point-of-sale, and communication equipment after training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous lead or supervisory experience
  • Experience in collegiate, community, municipal, or commercial recreation operations
  • Experience with recreation management, access-control, or point-of-sale software

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work Schedule

Part-time schedule with hours varying based on facility operations and supervisory coverage needs. Early morning, evening, weekend, holiday, and special event availability may be required.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in indoor and/or outdoor recreation, aquatic, fitness, customer-service, office, and activity spaces as assigned.
  • The environment may include moderate to loud noise, changing temperatures, humidity, wet surfaces, crowds, and exposure to cleaning products or outdoor weather conditions.
  • The position regularly interacts with patrons, students, guests, coworkers, vendors, and client representatives.
  • Work may occur during early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position and move throughout assigned work areas for varying portions of the shift.
  • Frequently communicates with and exchanges accurate information with patrons, participants, staff, guests, and emergency responders.
  • Frequently uses hands and fingers to operate equipment, computers, radios, telephones, point-of-sale devices, or other tools required by the assignment.
  • Occasionally bends, reaches, kneels, crouches, pushes, pulls, and moves supplies or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Frequently moves throughout a large recreation facility, including stairs and varied activity spaces, and may occasionally move equipment or supplies
  • Must be able to visually assess facility conditions and hear and respond to alarms, radio traffic, calls for assistance, and verbal communication in moderate-to-loud environments
  • Must be able to respond promptly to emergency situations and perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
