Thanks to a generous grant from the Alzheimer’s Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI), the Gainesville-Hall County Community Services and its partners will launch a new Saturday respite program.
Café Joy is a free coffeehouse-themed space for our Gainesville-Hall County family, friends and neighbors experiencing mild to moderate dementia/Alzheimer’s. After dropping off loved-ones to Café Joy, caregivers are free to enjoy their day, while guests remain to enjoy specially curated arts, crafts and entertainment designed to improve social connection and create moments of pure joy.
Café Joy has the following operational components: 1) reviewing and assessing guest applications, 2) assessing and following up with caregivers regarding their needs and concerns, 3) coordinating volunteers, 4) delivering direct services during the Saturday respite program and 5) documenting activities consistent with the Alzheimer’s Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation grant requirements.
Schedule/Confirm volunteers and ensure that they complete CDRI survey each Saturday.
Book special talent such as musicians, singers, dancers, artisans, etc.
Assist with the delivery of activities during the Saturday respite program.
Document Café Joy Guest Profile which includes attendance, activity participation and summary of daily interactions.
Assist in setting-up and breaking-down of the Café Joy space.
Work hours are 9am to 3pm on Saturdays when Café Joy is open plus 4 additional hours during the week to complete administrative tasks.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma required.
Basic office skills to include file management, use of copier and fax machine and proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Class C Driver’s License and satisfactory motor vehicle record (desirable).
The selected candidate must complete a three-hour in-person Dementia/Alzheimer’s training, two hours of CDRI video training and a three-hour in-person Café Joy orientation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance methods and procedures.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and do routine cleaning.
Ability to work with volunteers.
Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
