Job Description

The Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders (SUCD) ,Transitional-Aged Youth Program (Ages 16-25) at The Royal offers evidence-based services consistent with best practice and quality standards to clients with moderate to severe substance use disorders, mental health disorders and physical health conditions in a variety of settings (inpatient, outpatient, day programs, virtual services, community).  Duties:
  • Provide evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment (individual and group) and consultation for clients with concurrent substance use and mental health disorders
  • Provide psycho-diagnostic assessment, diagnostic clarification, and treatment planning for complex concurrent disorders
  • Incorporate evidence-based psychological treatments, including motivational interviewing , CBT treatment protocols, and DBT
  • Function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team in the SUCD program
  • Liaise and consult with relevant community agencies, hospital services, and service providers, including involvement in building capacity for concurrent disorders
  • Conduct academic teaching and educational activities including: supervision of pre-doctoral practicum students and residents in psychology, and non-registered psychology staff, as well as to professionals and learners regionally and nationally
  • Demonstrate the integration of research into care and conduct clinically oriented research to improve client care and outcomes
  • Demonstrate leadership and collaboration skills through participation in program and discipline specific activities
  • Provide educational presentations to community groups and conferences (travel required).
  • Demonstrate professional integrity through adherence to college and hospital guidelines for the practice of psychology, including; adherence to the Canadian Code of Ethics for psychologists; adherence to College of Psychologists of Ontario guidelines for registration, professional development, supervision, communications and documentation; and adherence to The Royal’s policies on timely completion of workload measurement, and adherence to organizational policies
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.

Qualifications:
  • Doctorate from a CPA/APA Accredited Clinical Psychology Program
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario.
  • Authorized area of practice in Clinical Psychology mandatory. Authorized client population in adults is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with individuals with concurrent substance use and mental health disorders
  • Five years of experience in clinical mental health. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in clinical work with substance use and mental health disorders, including patients with severe and complex mental health, substance use, and physical health disorders. 
  • Experience working in a hospital setting 
  • Demonstrated competency in delivering evidence based treatment in both individual and group formats with specialized experience in assessment and treatment of mental health and substance use health disorders  
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with vulnerable and marginalized clients, including knowledge in harm reduction models
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting and to communicate and collaborate in an inter-professional team context are essential, including working collaboratively between hospital and community services
  • Strong knowledge, demonstrated ability, and experience in program development, evaluation, and research
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational ability, critical thinking and goal-setting skills.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
