Job Description

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is actively seeking a doctoral-level psychologist to join the Department of Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry Division in a faculty position focused on clinical supervision, workforce development, and federally funded behavioral health research. This role combines direct clinical work, supervision of psychology trainees, program leadership, and participation in clinical trials addressing substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. The successful candidate will provide supervision and mentorship to psychology residents and postdoctoral associates, contribute to interdisciplinary training programs, and maintain clinical responsibilities within Strong Recovery. A major component of the position involves participation in federally funded research initiatives and randomized controlled trials focused on substance use prevention, digital behavioral health interventions, PTSD treatment, and rural workforce development.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Provide individual and group supervision to psychology residents and postdoctoral associates, including direct observation, feedback, and support for clinical competency and professional development.
• Maintain clinical responsibilities through psychological assessment services, treatment team participation, coordination of care, and delivery of evidence-based assessment and treatment for individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
• Collaborate with Strong Recovery leadership to support program development, training, quality improvement, and the integration of clinical education, research, and innovative service initiatives.
• Contribute to initiatives that identify, implement, evaluate, and disseminate evidence-based practices to prevent and reduce substance use and opioid use disorder, particularly in rural communities.
• Participate in program development, training, stigma reduction efforts, trauma-informed care initiatives, and evaluation activities that expand access to behavioral health resources and integrated substance use services.
• Coordinate clinical activities for a randomized controlled trial evaluating neurofeedback training for PTSD.
• Contribute to the implementation of a randomized controlled trial evaluating a digital cognitive behavioral therapy intervention for substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions.
• Participate in participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, intervention delivery, and supervision of trainees and research staff involved in study procedures.
• Assist with administration and ongoing development of the psychology training program, including recruitment, selection, orientation, evaluation, accreditation activities, and due process procedures.
• Coordinate training schedules and educational opportunities, and develop and deliver seminars, didactics, and interdisciplinary educational programming focused on trauma-informed care, collaboration, and evidence-based treatment.

The ideal candidate will have experience providing evidence-based assessment, treatment, and supervision for individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders and a demonstrated ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary clinical, academic, and research settings. Experience in psychology training, behavioral health workforce development, trauma-informed care, and participation in clinical research or randomized controlled trials is highly desirable.

Sr. Instructor $92,150 - $114,886

Assistant Professor $101,650 - $136,217

Associate Professor $129,200 - $177,960

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Health Psychology, Family Psychology, or a related field from an APA-accredited program.

Licensed as a Psychologist in New York State prior to start.

Experience in clinical supervision, providing evidence-based assessment and treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Experience with federally funded grants, research, program evaluation, or participation in clinical trials is preferred.

The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
