About the Opportunity

The Clinical Psychologist (PhD) is an essential member of the Hearts & Health in Motion Program team to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining their optimal level of function through risk factor identification and health related disciplines with regard to health promotion, psychology treatment and patient management in collaboration with the Medical Director and adherence to hospital and departmental policies.

Reporting to the Health Services Manager and Program Lead, the psychologist assesses and works with patients who are referred to the Hearts & Health in Motion in Motion Program with a primary focus of the service based in a group approach to addressing the psychosocial needs of patients with option for individual care.

The Psychologist provides assessment, intervention, group education, group therapy, teaching, research, and consultative services within an interdisciplinary approach to clinical care and works collaboratively with Inter-professional teams.

The successful candidate will be required to provide psychological assessment and interventions, including psychotherapy, risk assessments, and as a member of the clinical team, collaborates to determine patient treatment goals.

The psychologist accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Doctoral degree from a recognized, accredited program in Clinical Psychology with a strong clinical health psychology background, including a one-year accredited clinical pre-doctoral internship is required
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP) is required
  • A minimum of 2 years training and experience working in health behavior change interventions is preferred
  • Familiarity with behavioral programming is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with clinical health psychology assessments and interventions is highly desirable
  • Formal training and clinical experience conducting psychological assessments, psychological interventions and consultation
  • Experience in group format psychology therapies and interventions an asset
  • Experience delivering group education in-person and virtually an asset
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in formulating and implementing treatment plans
  • Self-directed in his/her practice with an ability to work independently and also as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in program evaluation and clinical research would be an asset
  • Experience working in cardiology area of practice preferred
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Long assignment part-time position; 30 hours biweekly

Compensation and Benefits

$54.05 - $70.98 hourly
